The long and winding road.

As a prelude to any real planning of this cross country epic, I decided to get some idea of what we've actually let ourselves in for. Firstly, it turns out that while Hadrian's Wall is in fact 73.5 miles long, the path which we'll be running is 84 miles long requiring us to run an average 28 miles per day to complete the three day challenge!

Then I found a map on the National Trail website which shows the relief along the way:

What worries me is the attendant key:

And in particular the Very strenuous walk sections. I guess we'll have to run much more than 28 miles on the first and last days to make up for the Pennine crossing.
